ABOUT NIGERIA

Nigerian Was culled from the Word Niger Area by Flora Shaw, Lord Lugard’s wife in I914 when the Protectorates of Northern and Southern Nigeria were amalgamated. Nigeria obtained her independence From Great Britain on October 1, 1960 and became a republican country on October 1, 1963. At That time, there were 3 regions (North, West and Eastern Regions). In 1964, a fourth, Mid- Western Region was added. A twelve-state political structure came into being on 27th May 1967, at the outbreak of the civil war from 30th May 1967 to 15th January 1970. It was increased to 19 states in 1976, the same year the FCT, Abuja was created, but officially launched on December 1, 1991. Nigerian states increased to 21 in 1987, 30 in 1991 and 36 in 1995. Today, Nigeria operates a federal system of government with 36 states and FCT Abuja. She is bordered at the south by the Bights, Benin, Bonny and Atlantic Ocean. Her neighbors in the North, West and East are Niger, Republic Of Benin and Cameroon. Her Moto is: Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress. Nigerian flag was designed by Taiwo Akinkunmi: the white colour of her flag represents‘’ Peace and Unity” while the green Color depicts: ‘’Fertile Vegetation”. Nigerian Population Is 154729768
